Alistair Ronald Cameron
I have served on both Cheltenham Borough Council (including as Leader) and Gloucestershire County Council and work as a Clerk to the Governing Body at Millbrook Academy in Brockworth. I am also a voluntary English teacher for adults.
My priorities include ensuring that the recent reductions in crime continue (such as burglaries) and working with the police to improve detection rates. Detection rates for some crimes such as robbery, domestic burglary and vehicle crime have been low at 9.4%.
Although overall satisfaction with the police is high, only 68% of victims are at least fairly satisfied over being kept informed of progress. This must improve. I am also concerned that black and minority ethnic victims are less satisfied with the police service than white victims.
I want the current police cuts to be implemented through sharing support services with neighbouring forces rather than cutting front line police officers. I oppose any cuts beyond £18 million as this could affect public safety. I will review any proposed station closures and look at ways of giving people better access to police services.
I want to keep Support Officers (PCSOs) to at least current levels so they can continue their invaluable role of working with both rural and urban communities.
I will work closely with the voluntary sector including victim support, housing associations, neighbourhood groups and Neighbourhood Watch who all make valuable contributions including supporting victims of crime, helping to tackle its causes and to rehabilitate offenders. I will also work closely with other public bodies.
I will take seriously my responsibility to serve everyone, regardless of their political allegiance, without fear or favour.
