The Conservative Party Candidate
Force area:
Kent
Craig Mackinlay
Election statement:
I want to bring crime down and make people feel safer. We must be tougher on criminals, tougher on crime and put the victims of crime first. I am on the side of those who live by the rules, respect others and pay their share.
My key priority is zero tolerance of all crime, particularly drugs and anti-social behaviour.
I shall hold police to account and ensure the views of residents and taxpayers are reflected in Kent’s policing policies.
I will introduce regular public meetings with senior police officers so those responsible for crime and community safety regularly face the public and address their concerns.
I will be accessible to all residents of Kent either online or via a designated hotline. I will be out and about in Kent regularly and I will expect to receive direct calls from the public.
Most people accept that in these times of austerity we must look for efficiency and value for money. As a Chartered Accountant I am better placed than most to identify the savings we need to make, whilst protecting essential services. And, as a long-serving magistrate on the North Kent bench, I have first-hand experience of how the criminal justice system works, and how it could be improved.
I have the greatest respect for our police officers who do a difficult job in often dangerous circumstances. However, this does not mean we should not address difficult questions; victims of crime must be treated respectfully, kept informed and supported. This does not unfortunately always happen.
I am from a local Kent family, born, raised and educated in Kent. My wife, Kati and I live and work here. I am determined to make Kent a better, safer place for all residents.
