John Norrie

Election statement:

Born in Scotland John has lived in Northamptonshire for 27 years.  He is married, Chairman of Northampton Advanced Motorists and an international sabre fencer.  He left secondary modern school at 15, managed to get to university, gaining a bachelor’s degree and a PhD.  He has worked as an independent professional for 30 years scrutinising performance and asking probing questions.  He has sought to change the way people think about what they do and to take responsibility for improving what they do.  He has an international reputation in this area.

John is not a party politician and has never sought elected office.  He is passionate about Northamptonshire and its police force.  He has extensive experience in improving the performance of organisations in both the private and public sectors.  He has worked with police forces and more recently with Northamptonshire Police on improvement initiatives which were very successful and still bring benefit today.  Prior to this he was an independent member of the Northamptonshire Police Authority.

He is keen to take the opportunity provided by the creation of the PCC post to bring real accountability to policing and large parts of the criminal justice system (CJS).  Using his influence, the public mandate and commissioning powers to effectively align and join up the CJS, redress the balance between offenders and victims and to allow the majority more of a say in what outcomes it should be achieving.  To be the voice of the people.

John has the qualities required of a PCC

•             Good understanding of how organisations work

•             Understanding of policing at all levels

•             Credibility with senior officers

•             A proven record as a good communicator

•             Proven ability to influence people and outcomes

•             The passion, experience and enthusiasm for this job.
