Essex is the County where I have worked and lived most of my life. I joined the City of London Police in 1975 and I have over 34 years of experience working in some of the toughest and most challenging areas of policing. I graduated with a LL.B (Hons) from Anglia Polytechnic and have applied my legal knowledge throughout my career having served in three forces, City of London, Metropolitan and Essex Constabularies. I am running as an Independent candidate because I believe Politics has no part to play in the role of Police Crime Commissioner for Essex. I have spent the last 12 months speaking to people across Essex, victims of crime, mental health charities, local authorities, police officers and communities in many of our towns and villages. A common theme in all these contacts comes through loud and clear. ‘They don’t want politics deciding policing priorities’,’ They do want to see cops on our streets’.’ They want the Police to turn up when they call them’ and ‘ Take their problems seriously’, in order to make their lives better.’ They don’t want to become victims’,’ They want less crime’ and ‘They don’t want their lives blighted by anti-social behaviour’. I will bring to the job real experience and credibility in order to make sure the things the people of Essex want, are delivered. I have a track record of working with partners throughout the criminal justice system and local authorities. I don’t believe Political expediency should be basis of decisions, but professional capability should, I will not be looking to Whitehall and Westminster for my guidance but will be very focussed on the needs of the people of Essex.
