Election statement:
The Police and Crime Commissioner post is a new one so there is a lot of listening and learning to be done before action is taken. This I intend to do.
The post requires an ability to prioritise objectives and the ability to manage a significant budget. There is a need to manage and lead at a senior level. Each and every candidate needs to be aware that choices need to be made and a wrong choice could have significant consequences.
I have wide experience in working in the private and public sector. Over the last 20 years I have worked as a psychologist in private practice advising the courts on aspects of child protection in family law.
Devon and Cornwall is a large area mixing cities with rural communities. As your Commissioner I would expect to fully engage with all the variety of people in the area.
I will use the role not only to make links between the police and the community but also to lobby government for realistic sentences and a reconsideration of speed cameras so they become less a source of income and more a way of reducing accidents and saving lives.
It is my intention to hold a series of meetings around the two counties. I will travel to towns and cities within the area and meet with representatives in order to fulfil my role as Police and Crime Commissioner.
As a representative of a national party devoted to maintaining powers within our own Parliament voters can be assured that their views will be heard at the highest level.
