Election statement:

I am a former Detective Chief Inspector who served in most areas of Devon and Cornwall, including Special Branch and the Regional and National Crime Squads. On retirement I spent 13 years with the Ministry of Defence in a security and terrorism role, mainly in Europe with British Forces and NATO. I combine the experience of being a serving Police Officer with the high-level expertise required to manage England’s geographically-largest Police area.

I have firsthand experience of the corrosive effect crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour have on people’s lives and the knowledge to identify where policing is not effective.

I will hold the Chief Constable to account on anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and drug-associated crimes such as burglary, ensuring our community is safeguarded against those who would harm it.

The protection of the vulnerable in our communities is a responsibility we all share with the police. Policing alone cannot solve all the issues in crime and disorder. The community and the various voluntary and statutory organisations have a vital role to play. Victims must have a voice along with the community in policing strategy and I will ensure that their voice is heard.

I will rigorously defend the policing budget and seek to have it balanced with the demands placed upon it.

The decision over how to deploy declining recourses over the next four years will be challenging. It is therefore really important that people use their vote for the best candidate for the job, someone with front-line policing experience and a record of helping to keep our streets and homes safe from crime.

You have two votes in this election, please make me your first choice.
