Police and crime commissioners

Police and crime commissioners are elected by the public to ensure the policing needs of communities are met as effectively as possible and to oversee how crime is tackled in your police force area.

Philippa Thompson

I am delighted to be your Labour & Co-operative Party candidate for the Dyfed-Powys Police area. I served in Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service, working with police and justice systems across the world, and on human rights and equality issues. My family and I live in West Wales where I’m proud to say my great-grandfather was a member of the Pembrokeshire Constabulary.

The Tories have created a crisis in policing and crime. They have spent a decade cutting the police, slashing billions of pounds from police budgets.

Here in Wales, the Welsh Labour Government has stepped up to support safer communities, investing in 500 extra Police Community Support Officers on our streets. The next Welsh Labour Government will increase the number of officers to boost community policing.

And it is Labour Police and Crime Commissioners who have spearheaded a public health approach to tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and violence against women by working with local authorities, voluntary sector and other agencies to make communities safer.

I am campaigning across Dyfed-Powys to keep the Tories away from direct control over our police forces. Electing me means protecting our local police force and making our communities safer.

  •          KEEPING US SAFE

I will work hard to ensure we keep our low crime rate. We need to be safe – and to feel safe.

My annual Plan will support Dyfed-Powys police to deliver an excellent service for all.

I will be your voice, to make the work of the police responsive to your needs.  I will always stand up for you.
