Police and crime commissioners

Police and crime commissioners are elected by the public to ensure the policing needs of communities are met as effectively as possible and to oversee how crime is tackled in your police force area.

Tony Bunday

An effective Commissioner will need expertise, knowledge, and experience. I have significant frontline professional experience from my long career across Hampshire. I have managed Youth Justice Teams in Portsmouth and Havant. Worked with young offenders in Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover. Managed mental health, homelessness, forensic, and substance misuse services in Southampton, all working closely with the police. I have inspected mental health, substance misuse, and young offender services for the Care Quality Commission.

I am acutely aware of the very real concerns around crime that all residents have. You deserve to feel safe in your own homes and communities and to know that you will receive an effective response when needed.

Hampshire is the worst funded police force in the country. By an additional £43.6m compared to other forces.

If elected, I would work tirelessly to pursue more resources for frontline policing. I want to see our police embedded in our local communities, working effectively with other services to tackle crime. I want to see more effective approaches to drug crime. We must learn from other countries and focus on the organised crime that is ensnaring the young and vulnerable, and blighting our communities. We need a better response to violence and harm against women and girls and need to start by listening to them. We need better protection of key workers, including shop workers. We need a greener police force.

I believe in fair, effective, and responsive policing. I know that our communities feel very let down and even abandoned. They expect and need much more. I will be a clear voice for you. I hope you will support me on the 6th May.
