Election statement:

This is the first time we will elect a Police and Crime Commissioner, the first time everyone will have direct access to those controlling police budget and strategy, the first time we remove police governance from Westminster Politics.

This is a great moment for democracy, of which we should take full advantage, by electing one of our own.

I ask you to vote for me, a true independent, without a political history or agenda. I will use judgement, humility and strength to ensure your voice is heard when decisions are made.

I have years of professional experience, managing complex budgets and people, building homes and starting businesses. I volunteer in schools, and I know the difficulties and rewards of raising a family in tough times, in Devon and Cornwall. I understand the duties and capabilities of the police, and I have a clear vision for the future.

With your agreement, I will use the respect the police command to reach out and and work with other agencies, institutions, businesses and communities to combat crime and disorder. Prevention is central to good policing. The police can be very effective alone, and they are stronger in partnership.

Partnerships are already making a difference. For example: Newquay Safe, reducing alcohol related disorder; NHS mental health staff in custody centres, reducing re-offending by working with the 80% of those brought in who have mental health or addiction problems. These schemes are  good for families and communities, and their efficiency is good for budgets. If we apply the principle throughout policing, we will not need to cut police constabulary or staff numbers, and there will be no talk of privatisation.

I ask for your vote, so I can make this work for everyone.
