Labour Party Candidate
James Andrew Plaskitt
I want to thank all those involved in fighting crime in Warwickshire for the great work they do, and for helping me develop my plan for cutting crime.
I will recruit more police officers. We are losing police officers in Warwickshire at a faster rate than any other force. Neighbourhood Teams and front-line numbers are down. More officers will help improve response, visibility and detection. We need to be cutting crime, not police numbers.
I will campaign for fair funding. We get lower funding per head than most other police forces in the country. And yet we are forced to subsidise better funded forces. I will campaign for fair funding for Warwickshire police.
I will strengthen the justice system. With a zero-tolerance stance on anti-social behaviour, a tougher approach to repeat offenders, and stronger support for tackling drug and alcohol abuse, we can cut crime.
I will support the victims of crime. My ‘Victims First’ policy will introduce a ‘track-my-crime’ service to keep victims informed. I will give victims a stronger voice and more support.
I will not privatise policing. The government thinks the gaps in our police service, caused by 20% cuts, can be filled by private companies. But we saw at the Olympics what can happen. I will not privatise core police functions. Policing is for public protection, not for profit.
I will not politicise policing. Politics must never interfere with operational policing. My duty is to support our professional police and get them the resources they need to do the job.
I will spend my time evenly between all the districts of Warwickshire, putting your local priorities for cutting crime first.
