With 30 years of frontline police experience in all ten Greater Manchester Boroughs under his belt, former bobby Matt Gallagher is the ideal candidate to be Greater Manchester’s first elected Police and Crime Commissioner.
The tough, no nonsense former Public Order Commander believes the police service needs to focus on its founding principles, preventing and detecting crime and bringing offenders to justice.
Matt’s police experience means he knows where there is waste and inefficiency that can be tackled, freeing up officers to focus on crime fighting and putting more officers on the beat.
Matt will introduce a Police Apprenticeship scheme so that recruits spend more time on the beat and less in the classroom.
A review of GMP’s Graded Response policy should see a faster service for vulnerable people and repeat victims.
His Consultative Committee will give a voice to every community and under-represented groups across Greater Manchester, and victims needs will take precedence over the demands of the ‘system’.
Matt will investigate ways to make sure that that criminals who play the system pay the extra costs incurred. His proposal would free up police officers to get back to the frontline, and spare victims and witnesses from being exploited by cynical criminals for their own advantage.
Matt believes that prevention is better than cure. The Liberal Democrats are committed to reducing reoffending based on what works, not on what will generate newspaper headlines.
Matt will call for Public Safety Representatives to be employed on certain bus routes to discourage anti-social behaviour and make travel safer and more enjoyable.
These are just some of Matt’s proposals. For more details visit www.Matt4PCC.org, or Facebook at Matt 4 GM PCC.
