I am a qualified Solicitor and mediator, I practice in civil and higher rights criminal law in South Wales. I served for 30 years as a police officer and following a serious accident was compelled to retire. I immediately took a Business degree at UWIC, a post grad in Law at Glamorgan University then the bar finals at Cardiff University and in 2007 qualified as a Barrister. I followed that by qualifying as a Solicitor and have practiced as a Solicitor since. I have been engaged in the legal arena for nearly 40 years.
As an experienced police officer I attended community groups in Cardiff and the Rhondda Valley, where I represented the local police and dealt with community concerns. As a Solicitor I regularly attend user group meetings dealing directly with representatives of the courts, probation, crown prosecution service, the police and victim support.
I have more to give to my community and the post of Commissioner is the perfect way to do so. I have extensive knowledge of the police which will enable me to fulfil the duties of Commissioner with an unrivalled expertise.
If elected I will ensure the needs and aspirations of the communities of South Wales are the driving force behind the office of the Commissioner and not the political needs of those in either London or Cardiff Bay.
I am keen to support the victims of crime and those who assist in this respect and to enable the police to properly address anti-social behaviour and drug crime.
It is vitally important that we maintain a strong and independent police force free from political interference.
