I am a Yorkshireman who served as a police officer for twenty years. Starting as a police constable I went on to serve in the CID, working on major investigations. I was a firearms protection officer to government ministers, up to Prime Ministerial level. I received commendations and retired from the service with an exemplary service record. I went on to work in the banking sector for ten years as a fraud investigator.
In recent years I have worked in my family business, the world famous Oldest Sweet Shop in Pateley Bridge. I have Chaired and served on the boards of a number of voluntary organisations for local communities. I am a patron of Dementia Forward, a registered charity in North Yorkshire. For services to businesses and the local community I was honoured to be awarded the MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in her birthday honours in 2018.
I am standing for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) of North Yorkshire, a role which should be independent of any political party. Party politics has no place in policing or the fire service. If you elect me, I will bring to the role an understanding not just of the police and the fire services but of business and community. I will work to support the Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer to deliver outstanding services to everyone who lives, works or visits North Yorkshire. I will donate 20% of my salary to local good causes.
My priorities:
– Preventing harassment, hate crime and all types of abuse.
– More police on patrol, making the streets safer.
– Tackling drugs, county lines, knife crime and anti-social behaviour – -Rural crime
– Preventing online fraud, bullying,
– Improving efficiency through best use of resources
– New green environmental initiatives, including electric cars.
