Paul Varnsverry is uniquely qualified to become Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire. An acknowledged world-wide expert in police protective equipment, since 1998 he has chaired the British Standards committee for riot, ballistic and stab protection used by police and other agencies and has advised ACPO on National Operational Requirements.
Paul has advised government departments, police and peacekeeping forces in North America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and other countries, so he has a real understanding of policing methods worldwide.
Paul was a key member of the team which led Northampton Borough Council from its position as the worst in the country to being one of the most improved, so he has a clear understanding of what is needed to bring change and improvement to a large organisation.
Paul was a member of the Northampton Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, working with the Police, local authorities and others to make Northampton a safer place to live, work and play. As chair of the Northamptonshire Motorcycle Safety Group, a partnership between the Police, the public and other organisations, Paul championed the “TRAC” project in Northampton, an off-road motorcycling facility set up in collaboration with the Probation Service.
Paul has proved himself expert at encouraging individuals and groups to be heard – for example, supporting the campaign for the new Radlands Skate Plaza in Northampton.
This election is about the people of Northamptonshire choosing a resident who knows the county well, understands the issues local people have about policing and crime, and can deliver an effective police and justice service.
Through his skills and experience, Paul will achieve all this and much more.
