The Conservative Party Candidate
As a leading criminal prosecutor, I have been closely involved in dealing with some of the difficult issues that the police see each day. This means that I understand law and order issues, I lead teams of police officers in fighting crime and I speak up for the decent, law-abiding majority.
I have three priorities for our county:
Firstly, to make Gloucestershire safer. I want to harness the police’s professional skills to fight crime and anti-social behaviour. I understand the different policing needs of rural and urban areas, and will ensure that our rural communities are not overlooked.
Secondly, to speak up for Gloucestershire people. I will fight for the public tirelessly, giving the police credit where it’s due and, where necessary, challenging police conduct.
Thirdly, to secure value for taxpayers’ money. Being self-employed, I will use my commercial experience to ensure taxpayers’ money is spent wisely, and to lead effective crime prevention and community safety strategies.
I want Gloucestershire to lead the way in fighting crime. Our police force has done some good work in tackling serious, organised crime; I want this to continue, dealing with issues that affect people’s daily lives.
This is “a local job on the national stage.” I have already discussed Gloucestershire’s policing issues with both the Prime Minister and Home Secretary, and will continue to speak up for our county at local and national level.
Let me be clear: there will be no interference in operational policing. The police will continue to be directed by the Chief Constable, as set down in law.
I will be a fresh voice for Gloucestershire: my trademarks are getting on with people and getting things done. I relish the chance to do this as your Commissioner.
